Neil Vincent Smith is a dynamic and versatile actor known for his compelling television, film, and theatre performances. Originally from Port Republic, Maryland, Neil moved to New York City in 2009 with a passion for storytelling that has only deepened over time. Since then, he has built an impressive career with standout roles in TV series such as FBI, The Blacklist, and most recently, Power: Raising Kanan and Monster: Mendedez Brothers, where he portrayed real-life murderer John Thomas Sweeney alongside Tony Winner Nathan Lane. This year, Neil also had the opportunity to work with Academy Award Winner Mark Ruffalo in the mini-series Task and with Academy Award Nominee Jessie Buckley in The Bride, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, set to release in October 2025. He recently appeared in the independent short film Bench Seats.
Neil’s dedication to his craft is evident in every role he takes on, whether he’s navigating the complexities of a character or bringing depth to a supporting role. His journey has been profoundly shaped by his mentor and friend, the renowned acting coach Maggie Flanigan, whose guidance continues to influence his work. In addition to training with Gary Perez, Audition Arts, T. Schreiber Studios, and LAByrinth Theatre Company, Neil studied musical theatre at AMDA, honing his skills in singing, songwriting, and performance. This blend of classical training and modern technique has allowed him to create authentic, memorable characters on stage and screen.
Equally comfortable in theatre as he is on camera, Neil has performed in numerous Off-Broadway productions, showcasing his range and commitment to the craft. There’s something about the immediacy of live theatre—the energy exchange with an audience—that keeps him coming back, balancing his screen work with stage performances whenever he can.
Outside of acting, Neil leads a vibrant life. He’s an avid home cook, horseman and a dedicated CrossFitter, always striving to push his physical and mental boundaries. His dog Hudson, a chocolate lab, is his constant companion and biggest source of joy, reminding him to stay grounded and grateful for the simple things. Neil is also deeply committed to giving back, actively volunteering with Meals on Wheels and supporting various equine and animal rescues. Whether it’s helping deliver meals to those in need or advocating for the welfare of animals, Neil’s passion for service reflects his belief in making a positive impact both on and off-screen.
Honestly, it’s strange to reflect on my own journey and accomplishments because, like many actors, I’ve often felt that bottomless pit of uncertainty. This year has been a turning point—I almost walked away from acting, but landing that role on FBI reignited everything. It led me to my managers and opened doors I never thought possible. I’m incredibly thankful—it’s in my bones, and I’ll never take it for granted.
To my fellow actors: “As actors, we are asked to be both strong and vulnerable, to delve into the depths of human emotion with authenticity and grace. We are tasked with embodying the human experience in all its rawness and beauty. Comparison is the thief of joy and the blade that cuts both ways. So forget the noise—focus on the craft, honor your journey, and always do the work.”
To Malissa, Gabby, Kerri and the rest at MYM - thank you for your unwavering support and belief in me. And a special thanks to Tina Wu for giving me my first feature film opportunity many years ago. This year has been full of new opportunities and growth, and I’m more inspired than ever to continue telling stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Because, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about—connecting, sharing, and being part of something bigger than ourselves.
